On the 11th of April 2008, Insomniac Games released the first glimpse of Resistance 2 on Gametrailers TV. The footage disclosed Nathan Hale’s voice, his bleak future and America overrun by Chimera. Since the video was only a teaser, it contained no actual gameplay footage. It teased even more though, as it ended with a promise of gameplay footage on Friday the 13th of June.
While some footage was leaked from the Sony Playstation Day, there hasn’t been any official footage of Resistance 2’s gameplay shown to the public yet and hype has gradually been building over the coming months as Resistance 2 is shaping up to be a game of colossal proportions. Insomniac Games themselves have declined to comment about which aspect the of gameplay the video will focus on, but since the Sony Playstation Day was purely focussed on the multiplayer aspect, perhaps they will decide to focus on other aspects instead? The recent screenshots that were released focussed on one of the story arcs (whether it be single player, or co-op), so perhaps more light will be shed on this area of the game.
Spike TV have announced that the video will be a whopping 7 minute long, and this will be a massive service to fans of the first game who will be looking to analyse the video and see what’s in store for their next adventure with Nathan Hale. Whether the video will contain purely gameplay footage remains to be seen, but there can be no doubt that the footage shown will be both visually stunning and highly entertaining.
It is very likely that the recently announced new weapons - the Marksman and Mini-gun - will also get a full on showcase throughout the video, and we may well see the new and improved Auger, which is now said to have a much improved fire-rate and the ability to allow the user to see through walls.
Other than that, Insomniac may feel the need to disclose a bit more about the story, or perhaps reveal a bit more about the co-op story, which we know will not be the same as the single player story.
Should they decide to focus on online multiplayer, they could chose to reveal some more information about the kinds of objectives players might be set, as well as seeing how the different classes will come into play during the mini skirmishes that will be taking place in the huge 60 man arenas.
One thing that is pretty much guaranteed though, is that we will see some of the new Chimera that have been announced. will appear in the game. We already saw one new type in the screenshots that were released, but after seeing what they came up with in Resistance: Fall of Man, it’s going to be great to see what they have lined up this time.
