List of Games Published by Insomniac Games
Insomniac Games have produced many fine franchises down the years, but like every company, they had to start somewhere. This is a list of all the games ever produced by Insomniac Games, with
little tid-bits of information, the console released on and the release date.
- Disruptor (Sony Playstation)
American Release Date: 20th of November, 1996
European Release Date: December, 1996
Disruptor was the first game ever released by Insomniac Games, and it was released on the Sony Playstation in 1996.
- Spyro the Dragon (Sony Playstation)
American Release Date: 20th of September, 1998
European Release Date: 11th of November, 1998
Spyro the Dragon was released two years after Disruptor and signalled Insomniac Games' intentions to develop franchises, rather than singular entities. The main character of the game
was a small purple dragon called Spyro (not Barney) and the game had instant success when it was released around the globe. And interesting fact is that the composer for the game is
Stewart Copeland, the drummer from the band "The Police".
- Spyro 2: Ripto's Revenge (Sony Playstation)
American Release Date: 2nd of November, 1999
European Release Date: 5th of November, 1999
Following the huge success of Spyro the Dragon, Insomniac instantly started work on the sequel, which would be released a year later. This time the game had an almost simultaneous release
in North America and Europe, but the game had a different title, with it being called Spyro 2: Gateway to Glimmer in Europe. The game also had a different name in Japan, with it being
called Spyro x Sparx: Tondemo Tours. In this title, Spyro starts off on a quest to defeat the evil sorcerer Ripto, who has invaded Avalar.
- Spyro: Year of the Dragon (Sony Playstation)
American Release Date: 11th of October, 2000
European Release Date: 25th of October, 2000
Although it was the third installment in the franchise, Insomniac opted not to include the number in the game's title, but instead paid tribute
to the Chinese Zodiac instead. In this title, Spyro travelled to the "Forgotten Realms" as he tries to reclaim 150 magical eggs which have been
stolen by an evil sorceress. Many consider it to be the best Spyro game developed by Insomniac, but it was unfortunately their last as they
passed the torch on, and Universal Interactive (who own the Spyro licence) were left to decide who would develop the next game.
- Ratchet & Clank (Sony Playstation 2)
American Release Date: 7th of November, 2002
European Release Date: 8th of November, 2002
After deciding to leave Spyro the Dragon behind, Insomniac decided to create a new franchise for the Sony Playstation 2 and this game
came to be known as Ratchet & Clank. It follow the story of Ratchet, who is a Lombax, and his sidekick Clank, a green-eyed robot
who is more often than no seen attached to Ratchet's back. This game was actually developed using the same engine was the original
Jak & Daxter game, which was developed by their good friends Naughty Dog.
- Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando (Sony Playstation 2)
American Release Date: 11th of November, 2003
European Release Date: 21st of November, 2003
With Ratchet & Clank this time "Going Commando", Insomniac certainly wouldn't want to be caught with their trousers down. Luckily for them
this sequel ticked all the boxes, and Insomniac had another hit on their hands. Obviously the title was a bit too risque for territories
outside of North America though, as in Europe it was called Ratchet & Clank 2: Locked and Loaded.
- Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal (Sony Playstation 2)
American Release Date: 2nd of November, 2004
European Release Date: 12th of November, 2004
Up Your Arsenal was the third installment in the Ratchet & Clank franchise, although it again didn't have the number in the title of the game. The same didn't apply for the
European release though, as the game there was called Ratchet & Clank 3 Up Your Arsenal. It was the first game in the series to offer online play and overall, the experience
was much improved on the previous installments of the game.
- Ratchet: Deadlocked (Sony Playstation 2)
American Release Date: 25th of October, 2005
European Release Date: 18th of November, 2005
As the name of this title suggests, Clank was demoted to a side-character for the fourth installment in the Ratchet & Clank series. The game also had quite different names around
the globe, with it being called Ratchet: Gladiator in Europe and Ratchet & Clank 4th: GiriGiri Ginga no Giga Battle in Japan. Unlike previous games in the series, this was much
more about combat and as shown by the boxart, had a much more sinister undertone. Many critics still praised the game, but it is the lowest rated game in the series so far.
American Release Date: 14th of November, 2006
European Release Date: 23rd of Match, 2007
Billed up as one of the Sony Playstation 3's premier titles ahead of its launch, Resistance: Fall of Man was a new chapter in Insomniac's history as it denoted a move
away from the typical platforming experience. Many were surprised when Insomniac announced that they were developing a gritty First Person Shooter, but when the game was
ultimately released, they certainly weren't surprised by the quality of the title.
- Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (Sony Playstation 3)
American Release Date: 30th of October, 2007
European Release Date: 9th of November, 2007
With Resistance: Fall of Man really living up to everyone's expectations, the pressure was on for Insomniac to also deliver the same kind of next-gen experience on one of their
long-running franchises. Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction proved to all that Resistance: Fall of Man wasn't a fluke, as they delivered easily one of the best looking
next-gen experiences available at the time.
Release Date: Fall 2008
After the success of Resistance: Fall of Man, it was announced shortly afterwards that the game was but the first part of a three game series. Since then, people have been
eagerly anticipating news about Nathan Hale's second adventure, which will take place in the United States of America.
